One of the three area athletes competing in the Class ‘A’ state track and field meet placed in Hamline University Friday.

Hayfield junior Hunter Anderson took fourth shot put as he threw a distance of 51 feet, 6.75 inches.

“I competed with everybody. They’re all real good throwers and I competed with them,” Anderson said. “I’m a junior. I still got another year and I finished fourth. You can’t be mad about that.”

Lyle/Pacelli junior Maya Ebeling, a foreign exchange student from Germany, missed out on the discus finals as she finished with a distance of 109 feet, 4 inches.

Ebeling finished 10th and missed the cut by three feet, two inches.

“I knew I wouldn’t be the best, but I thought I would make the finals, but it wasn’t meant to be,” Ebeling said. “I’m a little disappointed for sure, but I had the chance to be at state.”

Ebeling had thrown as far as 122 feet earlier this season and that distance would’ve led the field on Friday.

“I’m happy she’s here, she’s done well all season, but as a coach you just hope they’re going to do a little better,” L/P head coach Anne Christopherson said.

Grand Meadow/LeRoy/Ostrander/Southland sophomore Danielle Hanson just missed out on the finals for the second straight year in the 300-meter hurdles.

Hanson finished 11th in the preliminaries with a time of 46.90 seconds and she missed the final cut by .45 of a second.

Ebeling will compete in the shot put and Anderson will compete in the discus Saturday.
