Killebrew family raising awareness for hospice care with raffle, ride

The Lakeland Hospice Foundation is teaming up with Nita Killebrew, the Minnesota Twins and KLN Family Brands to honor Harmon Killebrew’s passion for hospice care by hosting Harmon Killebrew Hospice Day at Target Field on Saturday, Aug. 17 in Minneapolis.

People remember Harmon as a National Baseball Hall of Fame baseball player. What many people don’t know about was his dedication and love for hospice care. After two near-death experiences, Harmon found his calling by becoming a hospice volunteer and advocate. After Harmon’s passing in 2011, his wife, Nita, continued her husband’s legacy and love of hospice by sharing their story.

“I’m very stunned by how little people know about the incredible services and comfort hospice provides,” she said in a press release.

A caravan of business-sponsored buses and fan buses will travel to the game to show support for hospice care. There is also an opportunity for motorcycle riders to join in on Harmon’s Ride for Hospice, which will also take place that day.

A one-of-a-kind Harmon Killebrew 2013 Road King Harley motorcycle will be raffled off at a pregame ceremony at the Twins game. Former World Series Twins player Dan Gladden will ride the Harmon Killebrew Harley onto the field where Nita Killebrew will draw the winning ticket. Raffle tickets are available for $20 each, and you do not have to be present to win.
