High-risk offender changes address again, now moving to Austin

A high-risk predatory offender slated to move to Albert Lea last weekend has instead moved to Austin, according to the Albert Lea Police Department.

Robert Carl Goodew, 21, a Level 3 offender, registered his address in Austin on Saturday when he was released from prison, said Frank Kohl, an Albert Lea detective.

A community meeting scheduled for tonight at St. Theodore Catholic Church to discuss Goodew’s release has been canceled.

As late as last Thursday, Goodew told prison officials he planned to move to Albert Lea; however, his address was listed as “homeless.” Before that, he had been scheduled to be released to an address about three miles west of Hollandale.

Why he opted not to move to Albert Lea is unclear. However, before his latest stint in prison, he lived in Austin.

Albert Lea Police Chief Dwaine Winkels said though Goodew will not be living in Freeborn County, people should be aware of who he is because he has family in the county. Goodew engaged in sexual conduct and contact with a 12-year-old boy. He was charged with second-degree criminal sexual conduct in Freeborn County in 2009 for showing explicit videos to the boy and physically forced him into “fondling.”

He was eventually convicted of third-degree assault and placed on five years’ supervised probation and ordered to register as a predatory offender. He was sentenced to prison after he failed to register.
