County board to pick architect finalist for Government Center remodel

The county board is about to narrow the list of architects for remodeling projects at the Government Center.

The board is expected to pick the finalist for the joint Government Center and Law Enforcement Center remodel at Tuesday’s 1 p.m. county board meeting.

The board will select a finalist from the five architectural firms interviewed Jan. 23: Paul R. Johnson Architects; Zenk, Read, Trygstad & Associates Inc.; Wold Architects and Engineers; Paulsen Architects and HGA Architects.

The board has received insight from county and city staff on what firm they like best.

The county is remodeling vacant space in the Government Center to make room for Health and Human Services. The LEC remodel, which has been described as more cosmetic, will deal with tight space in dispatch and aging facilities in hallways, locker rooms and the lobby.

The county’s cost for the two projects is about $4.6 million — about $3.8 million for the government center remodel and about $800,000 for the county’s share of remodeling the Law Enforcement Center. Including all costs — county and non-county — County Coordinator Craig Oscarson said the entire project is closer to $6 million.

The board will hear annual reports from ditch inspector Cody Fox and Historical Society Executive Director Dustin Heckman.
