County Fair talent show applications available

Dust the guitars off, and stretch those dancing legs because applications are available for the annual Mower County Amateur Talent Contest.

The talent contest will be 1 p.m. Aug. 10 at this year’s Mower County Fair on the Fair Square Stage.

“We encourage anybody who can sing, dance, play an instrument, to share that talent,” said event coordinator Vandy Newman.

The event format features three divisions: 12 and younger, 13 to 19 and an open division. Those who won their divisions last year are required to move up a division.

Cash prizes will be given to first through third places in each division. First-place winners will earn a trip to the talent contest at the Minnesota State Fair.

Newman encourages more contestants and spectators from the greater county to try their hand at the competition.

“You never know who’s going to win,” she said.

Past favorites have included singers, piano players and a young juggling act.

Applications are available at participating banks and libraries around the county, in the Mower County Fair booklet, at the Mower County Fair Office, online at mowercountyfair.com or directly from Newman. The entry fee is $10. Entry deadline is Thursday, Aug. 8, but Newman will try to accommodate all applicants. A complete list of rules is listed on the application.

For more information, call Newman at 507-438-2237.
