Best Bets: February is for fundraisers

The town has gone pink for breast cancer, and Valentine’s Day has passed, but those who still have some leftover cash can make a difference this weekend. They can have some fun while they’re at it, too.

1. Indoor carnival fun

It’s going to be a Friday night bash with the annual Banfield carnival from 5 to 8 p.m., 301 17th St. SW. Take the kids and have some fun. Don’t worry, tickets can be purchased at Banfield.

2. Another something for the kids

Matchbox Children’s Theatre is set for another huge production from playwright Joan Sween this weekend. “Irish Tales: The Bones that Came to Visit,” will open to the public 7 p.m. Friday at the Paramount Theatre, 125 Fourth Ave. NE. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for 14 and younger. Can Sean Muldoon save his village, and the day? The performance will run again on Saturday and Sunday.

3. Shootin’ darts with purpose

Beyond the Yellow Ribbon continues to solidify itself in the community, but it could still use a little help from the public. Got skills? Take a stab at the dart tournament fundraiser this Saturday at the Austin VFW, 300 Fourth Ave. NE. Registration is at noon, and the tournament begins at 1 p.m. Entry fee is $10 per team.

4. Pasta and puppies

The Mower County Humane Society is looking for a little assistance, too. The organization’s annual pasta dinner and fundraiser will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at the Holiday Inn Grand Ballroom in Austin, 1701 Fourth St. NW. Tickets are $10 for adults and $4 for children 8 and younger. Among the dinner, there will be a silent and live auction and band entertainment by Rush Hour.

Other events

Help out even more, as Arc of Mower County’s 18th annual Rose Sale will be underway next week, or carb back up with the St. Edward’s Corcoran pancake breakfast on Sunday the 24th.
