WIC receives additional funding from federal grant
With an unexpected bump in funding, Mower County Public Health will be getting some additional help.
Lisa Kocer, Health and Human Services director, shared with the Mower County Board on Tuesday morning that the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program received grant funding that increased up to $16 per participant, which means the program itself saw an additional $11,000 increase in its funding.
WIC is a special supplemental food program for eligible low-income pregnant, breastfeeding women with infants and children under the age of five with a strong nutritional and educational component. The federal government provides grants to states for supplemental foods, health care referrals and nutrition education.
“In the grand scheme of things, it’s not much,” Kocer told the commissioners. “But, for that program, it certainly helps.”
