Take up importance of exercise

RSVP Bone Builders is an osteoporosis prevention and reversal exercise program.

It relies upon weight training to protect against fractures caused by osteoporosis through increasing both muscular strength and bone density. Trained RSVP members lead biweekly classes to help improve balance, increase strength, enhance energy, and provide health education, group discussion and socialization to participants.

Classes are free to participants and offered at the Mower County Senior Center. These classes are starting Monday, August 10 runs every Monday and Friday at 9 a.m. each week.

Studies published in the New England Journal of Medicine and the Journal of the American Medical Association show that elderly women who participated in a weight training program twice weekly for a year gained an average of 1 percent bone density. A control group lost 2 percent to 2.5 percent over the same time period. At the same time, participants reported increased strength, better balance, more energy and feelings of well-being. We are very excited to offer this new exercise program and hope to see you there.

Don’t forget our coffee shop where every day you can have homemade soup for $1 and a sandwich for 50 cents. Tuesday we are having scalloped potatoes and ham for only $2.
