Firefighters put out semi fire on Interstate 90
Austin firefighters put out a semi-truck trailer on fire on Interstate 90 between 14th and Fourth Street NW at about 10:30 p.m. Monday.
The semi was carrying poultry products to Hormel Foods Corp. when a front tire on its trailer blew out, according to Police Captain Dave McKichan. The wheel rim reportedly caused enough friction with the freeway to start the front of the trailer on fire.
Police and Austin Fire Department arrived on scene shortly after, as the driver tried and failed to contain the fire. Firefighters brought the flames under control and the semi was towed.
