Bin Laden photos convince Bachmann

ST. PAUL — After viewing graphic photos of Osama Bin Laden’s corpse Thursday, Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann came away convinced that U.S. forces killed the renowned terrorist and said U.S. officials should consider releasing results of a DNA match.

Bachmann was among select lawmakers from intelligence committee in Congress to view the photos in a secure room at CIA headquarters in Langley, Va. The potential GOP presidential candidate said there’s no doubt the corpse is that of bin Laden.

“I am convinced that this was bin Laden,” Bachmann said. “We got our man.”

The al-Qaida leader was killed in Pakistan by Navy SEALs during a middle-of-the-night raid last week.

Another Minnesota Rep. John Kline passed on the chance to see the photos of the bin Laden operation as a member of the House Armed Service Committee. The Republican said he had absolute confidence that the mission conducted by U.S. special forces was successful.

“Looking at the pictures doesn’t make him any more dead,” Kline said in a written statement.

Bachmann said she agrees with the White House decision not to release the photos to the public, but suggested a step that could clear up public doubts about bin Laden’s death.

“While these photos provide certainty of bin Laden’s identity, I also believe the best evidence of bin Laden’s identity is found through the release of the terrorist’s DNA match,” Bachmann said in a statement issued through her office.
