The Austin softball team got its first win of the season Friday defeating Dover-Eyota 10-2 in the first day of the annual Elks Invitational at Todd Park.

Jaidyn Bastian picked up the win, going the distance with seven strikeouts and walking three.

Austin scored in three different innings but confined most of its damage to one inning.

“We really came alive in the fourth inning,” said head coach Cindy Owen.

Austin scored six in the inning to take control of the game completely.

Shayley Vesel was 2-for-3 in the game with three RBIs while Bastian helped her own cause with a single and RBI.

Abby Bickler, Laura Siegfried and McKenna Gleisner all had two hits in the game with Abbey Ball getting a single as well.

“We did a nice job,” Owen said. “When you can hit the whole game improves. We just need to take care of the little things.”
