Rose Creek adopts Vegas motto for Fun Days

What happens at the creek, stays at the creek. That’s the motto at Rose Creek Fun Days, happening this weekend.

Most events take place at the city park and school ball diamonds. A car show takes place in the downtown area, and a dance is on the tennis court at the park. The BlackSox Kickball Tournament continues to be a big draw on Friday night.

“Last year, we had over 20 teams participate, and it lasted until the wee hours of the morning,” said Wendy Landherr, an organizer. The Creek Club takes pride in the success it has had over the last 12 years with this celebration, having big name bands such as The Johnny Holm Band, Hairball and most recently, PopRocks, which will be featured again this year. The Rose Creek Fire Department has taken a very active role in the last several years, as well. It will have a waterfight at 1 p.m. Saturday and a windsor chop supper in the park pavilion from 5- 8 p.m. on Saturday.

Rose Creek Fun Days has been the city’s celebration for many years. The Creek Club organization, formerly the booster club, took over in 2000. Funds raised are used to support the summer recreation program and many other community projects, such as new dugout benches at the city park and school ball diamonds, Rose Creek city monuments and Southland Public Schools fundraisers.

A number of other events will be held throughout the weekend, including softball and basketball competitions, children games and activities, hole-in-one golf, beanbags, a medallion hunt and several food stands.

The concession stand is open all weekend with a wide variety of food and drinks, including steak sandwiches, walking tacos and pizza.
