Austin man threatens drive-by, stands off with police

An Austin man is in the Mower County jail after allegedly making a series of threatening phone calls Saturday morning and standing off with police.

Coniah Horton, 27, was arrested at about 4:55 a.m. Saturday morning after a woman allegedly told authorities that Horton called her and threatened to do a drive-by shooting on her house. According to the police report, Horton called the woman several times making the same threats. When the woman told Horton that her children were there, Horton allegedly said he didn’t care, according to the report.

Police later found Horton at a home in northeast Austin, where they tried to call his cell phone and coax him outside. According to Police Chief Brian Krueger, police set up a perimeter around the house, and Horton came out roughly two hours later and surrendered. Nobody was injured. Police did not find a weapon; however, Horton is in jail awaiting formal charges.
