Iowa teen dies in school bus collision

ST. ANSGAR — A Stacyville teen died in a car-school bus crash around 3:25 p.m. Tuesday about three miles east of St. Ansgar on Highway 218.

Allison Marjie Smith, 17, a St. Ansgar High School junior, was killed in the accident, according to the Iowa State Patrol.

According to law enforcement, the school bus was stopped at 1741 Highway 218 when a 2005 Pontiac Bonneville driven by Smith ran into the back of the bus, driven by Rosalee Ann Lowe, 65, also of Stacyville.

No other injuries were reported. The accident remains under investigation.

A Facebook page has been created called “Remember Ally.” As of 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, the page had over 1,100 “likes.”

The St. Ansgar Fire Department, Mitchell County Sheriff’s Department, Osage Police Department and Mitchell County Regional Health Center Ambulance provided assistance.
