String of burglaries continues

The Austin Police Department reported two more burglaries Wednesday, adding to the recent string of break-ins in which suspects are prying open doors in Austin.

Suspects broke into a house at the 1400 block of Ninth Avenue Northwest sometime between Thursday night and Wednesday morning. The suspect apparently pried open a door and broke the wood jam and strike plate. The homeowner reported missing a 32-inch Emerson television, Compaq laptop, PlayStation 3 and controllers and other electronics. The estimated value of the items is $2,000.

At 4:30 p.m., another homeowner reported a break-in at the 1400 block of 27th Street Southwest, in which the suspects pried open a service door on a garage and entered the home. Inside, the burglar took an iPod, phone cases and a small safe containing an undisclosed amount of cash, jewelry, birth certificates and passports.

Early Wednesday morning, another victim reported their home in the 1800 block was burglarized after the door was also pried open.

Furthermore, two businesses on 18th Avenue Northwest and another Austin home were burglarized last week as well.

Police have no suspects in the burglaries but warn homeowners to be on the lookout and to report any suspicious activity.
