Meth possessor pleads guilty

An Austin man pleaded guilty Friday to charges that he had methamphetamine and lied to an officer.

Tavarius Dontae Pitchford, 32, of Austin, pleaded guilty to felony third-degree drug possession and a misdemeanor for giving an officer a false name. Charges for first-degree drug, a felony, and driving after revocation, a gross misdemeanor, were dismissed.

Police arrested Pitchford after an officer saw him parked at an angle to a curb at 3 a.m. The officer noticed Pitchford reaching for the passenger side of the car and acting strangely as the he approached.

A second officer assisted and recognized Pitchford, who was driving with a revoked license. After the officers arrested Pitchford, they saw a white grocery bag in the center console that appeared to have a white substance inside. According to the complaint, it contained 12 grams of meth.
