Teamsters Local 120 under scrutiny, execs on leave

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The International Brotherhood of Teamsters says it’s taken over leadership of a 10,000-member local and placed its top two executives on leave, citing evidence of financial irregularities.

Teamsters spokesman Bret Caldwell says Local 120 was placed into emergency trusteeship and its leaders, Brad Slawson, Sr., and Brad Slawson, Jr., are on leave. Local 120, based in Blaine, also has offices in North Dakota, South Dakota and Iowa.

A memo from international president James Hoffa says several concerns led to the trusteeship, including apparent irregularities in the local’s purchase of real estate for a new union hall. The Star Tribune reports the memo also says investigators also found irregularities in the operation of a bar and gaming operation in Fargo, N.D., known as the Teamsters Club.

The Slawsons could not be reached for comment.
