Assault suspect convicted in 1 of 3 cases

A suspect in multiple assault cases was convicted of a gross misdemeanor in one case Thursday in Mower County Court.

Dean Allen Thordor, 38, was sentenced to 30 days in jail for fifth-degree assault with previous convictions. He was given credit for time served and must report to jail in April 5. He was also fined $900 and must pay $3,365 in restitution from the case in which he reportedly struck a man in the face with a blunt object. A witness said it was a chain.

Thordor has yet to be sentenced in two other cases — the most recent for felony terroristic threats, felony domestic assault by strangulation, and gross misdemeanor charges for domestic assault and interfering with a 911 call.

The victim said Thordor choked her several times earlier this year, which almost caused her to black out, and she thought she was going to die, according to the court complaint. Thordor took the victim’s phone, according to the report; however, the victim was able to contact police later on an old cell phone. The victim said Thordor left the scene. He was arrested a day later at the law enforcement center.

Thordor also faces charges from April 2012 from which he allegedly assaulted a 17-month-old and 4-year-old girl, as well.

According to the court complaint, the girls’ mother said the children don’t like Thordor and they often cry when they are alone with him. The 4-year-old has said that Thordor hits both she and her sister, as well.
