ST. PAUL, Minn. — There were no reported traffic deaths on what was expected to be the deadliest day of the year on Minnesota roads.

The Department of Public Safety reported Thursday that statewide numbers were still being compiled, but preliminary reports indicate no one died on the Fourth of July holiday.

According to department spokesman Doug Neville, in the past three years, 21 people died on Independence Day, including six fatalities in 2011.

But Neville added that not all public safety agencies have submitted their numbers.

The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports (http://bit.ly/N2rG0f ) law enforcement has averaged 500 drunken driving arrests on the Fourth of July in the past three years.
